Artist Bio
Allison P. Kroeger is a mixed media artist whose work focuses on intuitive, process-driven abstraction. Using hand-painted collage papers, drawing materials, and layered mark-making, she creates compositions that explore the relationship between thought, emotion, and perception.
A lifelong artist, Allison originally studied art education before earning a degree in studio art. She later completed a graduate degree in counseling and has led expressive arts groups for teens and adults. Her teaching experience includes working with individuals with developmental delays and with incarcerated youth, using art as a means to encourage self-expression, confidence, and emotional insight.
Her background in both art and therapy shapes her belief in the value of creativity as a daily practice. She lives and works in Portola Valley, CA, where she maintains an active studio practice.
Artist Statement
I create non-representational mixed media art using hand-painted collage papers, drawing materials, and mark-making. My process is intuitive and experimental, allowing the work to develop through layers of texture, color, and form.
Each piece begins without a fixed plan. I work by responding to what's in front of me - building, covering, and adjusting until the composition feels resolved. The process is similar to meditation: it helps me focus, slow down, and pay attention to the present moment.
My work reflects my interest in how our thoughts shape our emotions, and how emotions influence how we experience life. I aim to translate those internal experiences into something visual and physical. The results are layered, complex, and open to interpretation.
In addition to my studio practice, I have taught art to individuals with developmental delays and to incarcerated youth. These experiences have reinforced my belief that creativity is a powerful tool for self-expression, connection, and healing. I create primarily for my own expression, but I hope my work invites others to pause, notice, and reflect on whatever comes up for them.
The work featured on my site is for sale and I also love to take commissions.
